This is coming at a time when the likes of Qualcomm, Apple and Huawei have seen their 7nm chipsets (Snapdragon 855, Bionic A12 and Kirin 980) launched in various smartphones. Not just that, Snapdragon 855 and Kirin 980 have been announced with 5G in Samsung S10 5G and Huawei Mate X. About MediaTek’s 7nm chip, Finbarr Moynihan, MediaTek’s vice president of corporate sales and business development confirmed it today. He also stated that the chipset could be available to the flagship segment. That’s such a welcome development given MediaTek’s renowned commitment to budget smartphones including entry-level and mid-range sectors. Currently, the company’s top-tier SoC is the MediaTek Helio P90 which is built on 12nm. So, such a minimalisation from 12nm to 7nm is pretty incredible. For the 5G enablement, the 7nm chip will be equipped with MediaTek’s M70 5G modem. Asides from these, the MediaTek executive was coy about the specifications of the chipset. But reports have it that Cortex-A76 CPU could be the processor on the chip. As per MediaTek’s involvement in significant budget smartphones, we could be seeing phones with MediaTek’s 7nm 5G chipset coming at lower prices compared to the Qualcomm and Huawei counterparts. Good news for Infinix Mobility and TECNO Mobile That said, phones with the 7nm 5G chip will roll out in the Q2 2020. READ MORE: [Updated] list of smartphones powered by Snapdragon 855 processor
