The Xiaomi TV Stick 4K adds 4K Ultra HD resolution up from 1080 Full HD of the base model, 2GB of RAM up from 1GB of RAM and is now updated to Android 11 from Android 9. Xiaomi has also added Dolby Vision which is regarded as the gold standard in HDR picture quality. This streaming stick keeps Dolby Atmos and DTS HD audio standards much like the Mi TV Stick. Your Smart TV must also have a 4K resolution and support Dolby Vision to take full advantage of these features.
In an unexpected turn of events, this streaming stick is powered by the classic Android TV interface instead of the newer Google TV interface. Google TV is a new smart TV experience that first shipped with the Google Chromecast in 2020 and is now available in some TCL, Sony and Hisense Smart TV models. I own the Mi Box S 4K which runs on classic Android TV and the latest Chromecast with Google TV. From my observation, it appears Google is putting more effort in Google TV more than classic Android TV. If you’re buying an Android streaming device or Smart TV, I would highly recommend you go with those running on Google TV.
The Xiaomi TV Stick 4K packs all the Android TV goodies you would expect; Chromecast built-in for casting and sharing media to the big screen, Google Assistant for voice control, over 7,000+ Apps from the Google Play store, and wide variety of streaming services such as Netflix, Youtube, Disney+, Prime video, Hulu, HBO Max, Apple TV+, ShowMax, DStv, Pluto TV, Tubi, Plex, Peacoock, Crackle and many more.
